Situ Babakan, daerah pelestarian budaya Betawi,sekarang sudah punya bengkel untuk membuat batik dengan nama Keluarga Batik Betawi. Bengkel ini membuat batik dengan motif-motif Betawi seperti ondel-ondel, Monas, gasingan, dan sebagainya. Salah satunya yang saya beli hari ini (21/02/2015). Sebenarnya saya cari yang motif tradisional, tapi mereka tidak buat.
Situ Babakan is a conservative area for Betawi culture, Jakarta people. Now they have a workshop to make batik, specializing with the pictures of Betawi culture like ondel-ondel (a pair of big puppets), gasingan (toy), Monas (National Monument) etc. I bought one piece of batik stuff today (21/02/2015). Actually, I planned to buy a stuff with traditional print, but they don't make it.

Ada dua macam jenis batik yang mereka buat di sini yaitu batik cap dan batik tulis. Batik yang saya beli ini adalah batik cap, harganya mulai Rp 120 ribu. Kalau batik tulis mulai Rp 600 ribu hingga beberapa juta.
There are 2 types of batik they make here: batik cap and batik tulis due to the process of making. "Cap" means "Stamp" and "tulis" means "write". Batik cap is cheaper than batik tulis, because it is easier and quicker to make because they make it with special stamp. Batik cap cost starts from Rp 120,000 (= USD 10). Batik tulis starts from Rp 600.000 (= USD 60)
Ketika ke sana, seorang pengrajin sedang menggambar pohon pete dan nantinya akan dibuat menjadi batik tulis. Keren banget desainnya. Wah gak sabar deh lihat jadinya, pasti keren. Saya tanya, pernah ada yang jiplak gak? Mereka bilang, ya, dan dibuat dalam bentuk batik print, yang jelas harganya bisa lebih murah lagi.
When I was there, one of the designer draw a pete tree for batik tulis. The design is pretty and I am so eager to see the finished product. I asked him, whether someone cheat or copy the pattern. He said, yes and it is made for batik print. Batik print is industrialized, that's why it's so cheap.
Rencananya sih, saya mau buat sackdress. Keren ya.....
I plan to make a sack dress from this stuff. This will be cool, right?
